He Had It Coming: Phil Robertson's Quote Upsets Facebook

It has spread like wild fire on Facebook- Duck Dynasty's, Phil Robertson, has been banned from the A&E network for his statement on homosexuality. Apparently, it is wrong to state that homosexuality is illogical and not what God intended.

hmm...

Phil is also quoted as saying, “I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

So here is the thing I don't get...

No matter your viewpoint on gay marriage and homosexual relationships, we all should have the right to have a viewpoint. If you are for gay rights, you have the right to speak out, to fight for what you believe in. My problem though, is that thing called reverse prejudices. You have the right to speak out for gay rights, but if a conservative Christian speaks for what they believe in, they get banned from their own television show! Yet, shows like Modern Family, can plainly broadcast a homosexual relationship and no one says anything about that... it is kind of annoying to me...

I have Facebook friends who are so quick to bash anyone who stands for Biblical truths, yet claim to believe in God. And yet, they demand that their liberal views be treated with the up most respect and that what they think is the truth we should all live by...

Sadly, I disagree with the views of the world. And the reason it is sad, is because if I quote what God says about homosexuality, the world with shun me. But it is sad not because they will shun me, but because they are living in a world where they believe their truth is more important than God's truth. And because so many "Christians" approach homosexuality with either two ways, option A being to bash and use hostility to make their views heard, or option B, the approach is lackadaisical or even being for something that is clearly not biblical.  That when someone does speak the truth plainly, he is attacked, because obviously he must be bashing since he is not lackadaisical.  The truth- you can speak biblical truths from a place of love and respect.

WAIT. Don't go yet. Here is my point. My point is yes, the Bible is clear on homosexuality and the sin that it is... but it is also clear about infidelity, and gossiping, and lying, and stealing, and having idols in your life... it's like really clear on that- and yet, people still do those things too-- sin is sin. We are all in need of grace and forgiveness and the "one without sin, let him be the one to cast the first stone..." Which means, if we are all sinners, we all have no right to cast a stone, or to bash another person's life choices. At the same time though, as Christians we can't let the world muddle what the Bible clearly says. You either take the Bible as a whole or you don't take it at all. And you either stand up against the ways of the world, or your don't. God is not someone to play with but this is the most important thing any of us can do, and that is to Love God and to love our neighbor.

If you are gay, I love you. If you are an adulterer, I love you. If you lie, steal, gossip, covet or are materialistic, I love you. We all are given free will- you can live your life anyway you decide you want to... I've decided that despite my sin, I will do my best to follow the truth that God has set- and even if the world shuns my views, I will not be ashamed of the gospel. But with that, I will also show love. God loves you. Wherever you are in life, God  loves you, and I pray that you know that love.

I encourage you all in two ways- 1st- remember that all people deserve to have a voice, which means if we want respect for our views, we have to show respect when people have different views from us. 2nd- Love. Love your neighbors as you so love yourself. By loving you are not condoning a sin, but love covers a multitude of sins, and when we love, we allow God to work through us to change lives.

As far as Phil Robertson is concerned, we all know Duck Dynasty is a biblical based show- every show ends in prayer-- that means, we all know they as a family stand for biblical truths- and if you believe in the Bible, than you believe that homosexuality is not logical, just as Phil said. And just as those who are for gay rights have the right to make a ruckus over Phil's statements,  we as Christians have the right to stand for our beliefs. And as long as we do it with respect, we can show the world that those who identify themselves with God, are not all Bible thumping meany's who don't know the first thing about anything- but instead, be ambassadors worthy of our calling, who stand up for God with poise and grace.

But don't back down Christians, don't sit on your hands-- because we don't want to let the world, especially america, to get to a point where God's truth is considered secondary to the ways of the world.

I love you all- and if I lose you as FB friends or as a supporters, I wish you well, and I won't stop loving you. But let's respect each other's right to have a voice, because if we don't, then what's the difference between us here in America, and that of North Korea where freedoms are forbidden?

Let us LOVE and let us not pick and chose what we believe when it comes to the Bible and our eternity.
