9-11 Cross in the Rubble

‎10 years ago, I went to New York City. I saw the remains of what had been the two world trade towers. And as tears filled my eyes, walking through, I stopped, and gazing again into the rubble, I saw a cross. The only thing left standing from the buildings were these two beams, in a cross shape. That moment hadn't really made sense until today, 11 years later. 9-11 has always been a hard day for me, just remembering the pain I saw in others faces, my first experience of seeing death, people falling from buildings- all of that had a huge impact on my life. Today though, I don't feel like mourning. Today I am grateful. I am grateful that the seed of wanting to stop terrorism was planted in me. Without that moment, I would of never thought to go into the Intelligence field. I am grateful for the men and women who sacrifice their lives to give America back her freedom and safety everyday. In the midst of 9-11 we remember those emotions we felt that day: panic, fear, hatred. But today, I am choosing to remember that cross that I saw in the rubble. In whatever situation you're in, turn your eyes to the cross. There is hope and there is healing at the cross. God brings beauty from the ashes, and even in moments of great tragedy, God offers hope. May we never forget this day. And may we as America, turn back to God because He is our only hope for the future!
