A side post, to the one coming tomorrow
Disagreements:
Facebook is a wonderful tool. It is a social network that allows me to keep in touch with so many people, and to keep up with family, friends and organizations. And just as much as it is beneficial for my life, it is also a struggle. One struggle is the amount of time that Facebook tends to consume. I sit down for "a minute" and an hour later I pick my head up from my computer. The second struggle is when I disagree with what people post on Facebook. So then the third struggle is how should I respond to what I disagree on?
The virtual world is a bit tricky. On one hand it is easier to say what you think because your not face to face to anyone. But on the other hand, you risk people taking your words out of context or reading your words with a different voice in mind. If you say a sarcastic remark, and a person reads it in a serious voice in their head, you will have a problem.
Often my frustrations are mostly about how people spend their time. Living life like it is one big party and everyone on FB should know about... And the way I avoid those frustrations, because it is not my life to live, and social networking means you can post whatever you want, I just "hide" them from my news feed so that I do not have to read every post they have about drinking, or partying and so on...
But what do you do if someone post things that you spiritually disagree with? Things that are against the Bible clearly? Then what do you do? Do you private message them? Do you publicly defend your faith on their post for all to see?
Again, we all are given this right to live our lives how we want... But that doesn't mean that God approves. We can allow the wool to be pulled over our eyes, and choose our own views of God that picture God and his judgement in rose colored glasses, but again, it won't make the reality any different.
"Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men,nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Corinthians 6:8-9
The thing is-- you can live how ever you want. God is not going to force you to live your life a certain way. BUT you will be judged. God is the good judge, and no amount of good can out-way the bad. Only forgiveness through the blood of Christ can get you into heaven. But living for yourself. Fulfilling your needs above others is not biblical. Gratifying sexual pleasures outside of marriage (between one man and one woman) not biblical.
We can fathom up hopes that we can live our lives however we please -with our time on earth- without any consequences, but my friends, you are WRONG.
Do not let the Devil win at his job ( which by the way, he is awesome at what he does). Just as much as people have the right to speak against the Bible, we have the right (and are called to) speak up for the truth. Stand for justice and purity. Our time is truly short here on this earth, at any moment you can die, and be gone from here. Do you really want to be standing before God right now, in this moment, the way are living your life right now? If you can't say yes, then you might want to consider adjusting your life, so that with a clear conscience you can stand before the God almighty who created this world and created you!
He has a purpose and a beautiful plan for each and every one of us. HE HAS A PLAN FOR YOU! There are no guarantees of an easy life, in fact, the Christian life is truly hard. You have to give radically, love with zeal, always be on fire for God. Just as enthusiastic as we get about college basketball, we should be even more so for sharing Christ, giving to missions, serving our communities, reaching people for Christ.
Everyday, a living example, holy and pleasing unto to the Lord.
So stand up for your faith! Do not let social media change your ideas about speaking out. When there are things you disagree with, think before you type, but speak out. Let your words be seasoned with wisdom and grace, and make a difference. But also think before you ignore a comment or a post.
AND please never forget, that the greatest commandment is to love! Hate the sin, not the person. You are not the good judge, you are a sinner yourself. Always be self controlled, seasoned with grace. Always speak from a place of respect for God in your life, and for the the right that person has as a human. Hate won't change anything, truth will though.
If you are living in sin or know people living in sin- just remember that you are a sinner too! Love them, but urge them to return to scripture, and rediscover how powerful God can be in our lives if we allow Him to have the control in our lives!
TO EACH PERSON READING THIS: I LOVE YOU, JUST AS CHRIST LOVES ME. YOU MAY THINK YOU DO NOT DESERVE LOVE. YOU MAY THINK YOU DO NOT DESERVE REDEMPTION OR SALVATION. BUT KNOW THIS, NEITHER DO I, YET CHRIST LOVES ME, FORGIVES ME OF MY SINS, AND REDEEMED ME ON THE CROSS. IF YOU LIVE IN SIN, AND YOU KNOW IT, THERE IS HOPE. CONFESS YOUR SINS. RUN FROM SIN. MAKE CHANGES IN YOU LIFE. AND SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD!
